OSS has pioneering enterprise, which already has a track record of providing better solar energy systems. These systems combine the advantages of advanced design expertise and local manufacturing facility with hands on understanding of the terrain and climatic variations that are unique to the GCC countries. OSS is perhaps the first and only successful effort of its kind in the Gulf.

OSS has already designed, manufactured and installed solar lighting systems for interior roads, public Toilets, solar power supply systems for unmanned microwave telecommunications systems to Omantel; Pay phone booths; TV transposer systems MOI and variety of systems for oil and gas industry in Oman. The solar systems for TV transposer stations have been installed on mountaintops, with access to the sites by helicopters.

In 1997 OSS bagged a major project from Etisalat, UAE. This project, valued at $10 million, involved design, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning of passive cooled shelters and solar photovoltaic power systems for powering 33 remotely located (Island and desert based) GSM base stations. OSS won this project against stiff competition from multinational companies and has successfully completed the same.

OSS has completed projects for design, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning of solar photovoltaic power systems for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), for powering twelve radio base stations at interior operation sites. OSS has also recently completed project for SQU in collaboration with Kinemetrics Inc. USA for installing Solar Power Systems for ten seismic monitoring stations spread all over Oman.

OSS has also been involved with the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) for installing Oman's first wind-powered, electric water pumping system at a remote site around 900 km south of Muscat. This system was installed for research purposes, using wind energy for irrigation purposes.

Prudent customers such as PDO, Oman Tel, MOI and Etisalat, only to name a few, have well established product and supplier evaluation procedures and go by the quality, technical strength, infrastructure of supplier and after sales service rather than just the product price. We have an advantage over others in these respects, as OSS has a well-established quality system in place and the company is ISO 9001 certified.

OSS is looking at both horizontal and vertical integration and wants to diversify into areas like telecommunications and instrumentation. Similarly, OSS has been focusing on introducing telecom equipment such as SCADA systems, RTUs and instruments that go in conjunction with solar systems and is on the lookout for reliable partners in these fields. OSS is also looking for strategic partners to export these systems to their neighboring countries.
